Park County Fairgrounds

The Park County Fairgrounds has long stood as a cherished local landmark, best known for hosting the annual county fair—a cherished tradition featuring rodeos, livestock showcases, and exciting rides. Yet, for much of the year, the site remains largely inactive, requiring ongoing maintenance while offering limited value to the community during the off-season. In response to this underuse, Park County officials launched an initiative to reimagine the Fairplay fairgrounds as a dynamic, year-round community space.

Through public engagement at two fairs and a series of community meetings, residents shared a wide range of ideas for revitalizing the grounds. Suggestions included traditional improvements—such as enhancing the rodeo arena and expanding parking—as well as more forward-thinking additions like a business incubator, year-round marketplace, and early childhood education facilities. This collaborative process led to a vision that honors tradition while addressing contemporary needs.

The resulting master plan centers on a multi-purpose “hub” building designed to activate the site year-round. This facility will include a café, co-working and office spaces for local entrepreneurs, a childcare center, and an events venue that complements the existing fairground features. Together, these improvements aim to enhance the annual fair while transforming the site into a vibrant destination that supports economic development and community well-being throughout the year.

With this transformation, the Park County Fairgrounds is set to evolve from a seasonal gathering place into a thriving hub of activity, deepening its value to both residents and visitors.
